Could I get healthy insurance through my boyfriend's benefits?
We have lived together for over a year now and a couple people have told me I should be able to be under his healthy insurance if he received it from work, or viceversa. Is this true? We live in NC I don't know if that would make a difference.
haha just a typo, I know it's not healthy

OK, first of all, it's HEALTH insurance, not "healthy" insurance.

Second of all, there are very few insurance companies that cover unmarried domestic partners. The only way to find out is either for him to ask the HR people at his work, or for him to call the number on the back of his insurance card and ask the insurance carrier.

Laws vary state to state regarding coverage for Not married partners .

Your BF will have to ask the benefits dept at his work .

If you meet the NC requirements to be considered to a common law spouse, you might be able to be insured under his plan. In some states, there are ways for homosexual couples to establish a legal relationship so that they can get such benefits. If he is just your boyfriend, most likely, you cannot. Common law marriage, possibly.

Only if his employers plan allows shack ups to qualify for health insurance. However, very few employers pay for this.

Not what you want to hear....but the way to get on your boyfriends health plan....is to become his wife.

Live in girlfriends do not have the same legal rights as a wife.

Also, if the employer does allow heterosexual domestic partnership insurance, it because a taxable benefit to the employee.
What this means is that if the insurance cost the company $ 1000 a year (this would be a very low estimate) than your boyfriends employment/income tax will be based on his salary +$ 1000
