What are the odds of a white great dane being healthy?
I just had a litter of great dane pups, one of which is a white, right now he seems strong, healthy and is the fattest in the litter, he has a couple gray spots around his tail and some spots around his ear (which I've heard helps the chances of hearing) I've done lots of reserch on the white dane and all I've come up with is all the problems that can occur, but I would like to know what the chances are of him being a healthy dog

Not very high, all white dogs in general are more susceptible to deafness, blindness and other health issues.

From what I know of Danes and other dogs in general, white dogs are more prone to issues with deafness and blindness, but each dog is unique. He may end up being completely fine. I would suggest talking to your veterinarian and doing regular checks. Snap near his ear and see if he responds, wave a toy or treat in front of him and see if he follows it, etc. If you start noticing something unusual, take him in.

So you have a harlequin or mantle b**** and you bred to another harlequin or mantle and one of the puppies is oddly marked. If you got a white in any other type of color combination then you have a genetic mutation and he probably has other genetic abnormalities. I would suggest not trying that same breeding again and counsel the new owners of all the puppies that if they breed their mantle or harlequin puppy in the future it should be to a black, or either a harlequin from black breeding or a mantle from black breeding.

just an opinion
Well, as you probably know he may or may not have his vision and hearing. Have him tested when his eyes and ears open, before you try to place him for adoption. If he has any vision, he will probably be just fine. There are many successful deaf dogs as pets. If he is deaf AND blind, you might want to ask your vet about what would be most humane for the dog and his quality of life.

And it probably goes without saying, but I'm sure you know not to repeat any more merle/merle or merle/harlequin breedings to avoid this condition.

Possibly because he has some spots on him he may be ok. All you can do is monitor him now. Watch him as he ages with his littermates and you will be able to notice a difference in his behavior. If he does not react in the same way as the rest of them he may have some handicaps. No one can tell you for sure what his health will be like but if he can see and hear that may indicate he will have no more problems than any of the other puppies (there are always problems - some litters inherit more genetic problems than others)
