for my health project i have to write a full page that gives tips for making healthy choices when eating out?
i have to write a page on tips for making healthy choices when eating out: what to look for, what to avoid, key words to look for in the food descriptions on a menu, how to have food prepared, questions to ask the server, etc....please help!!

My favorite tip: Choose the fish or vegetarian option. Most people don't eat enough fish or vegetarian meals, so take advantage of the option when you have it.

Give your project an extra punch by making it look like a one page menu.

Foods to avoid when eating out include heavy sauces, foods and dressings high in sodium, (most of them are). Asking the server if there's any MSG or other additives in the foods ordered.

More examples:

Avoid foods that are fried, smothered in cheese, foods that are cooked in oil. Breaded fish, breaded chicken, etc. Foods prepared with butter.

Foods to order would be baked, roasted, grilled.

Questions to ask the server would be how many calories are in an order of (whatever it is). You can ask for a complete calorie count and fat listing of everything on the menu. Most restaurants and fast food places have this information available.

How is the food prepared? You want to shy away from deep fried and most fried foods.

What ingredients? Any preservatives? What type of oil? How fresh is the food? Organic or non-hormone?

Calories? Types of fat and fat content in the food?

Steamed veggies over boiled. Make certain that they don't over cook the veggies.

Is it freshly cooked or reheated? You'd be surprised at how many restaurants precook the pastas and then just drop them into boiling water for a minute.
