How to eat healthy? Need advice and ideas.?
I recently decided to live a healthier life. I have cut out alot of the junk I was eating and dropped thirty pounds. I still have twenty more to go to meet my goal. My problem is the healthier I get the more I realize I don't know or remember much about being healthy. I thought I knew how to eat healthy (as a former athlete), but half the stuff I did then is considered wrong now (high carbs). I need to eat healthy but I don't want to be bored with my food. I really want a new and permanent way of living. Any suggestions for cookbooks or recipes. How do you survive a healthy lifestyle and still enjoy yourself? Advice?

As a general rule you need 3 portions of carbohydrate, (ideally wholegrains such as brown rice or wholewheat pasta), 3 of protein (such as eggs or beans), 3 of fats (for example a small handful of nuts or some avocado), 2 of dairy (like cheese) and at least 5 of fruit and vegetables. Out of these, chose ones you like so you're more likely to stick with it. Drink lots of water and aim for about 1700 calories a day.
In terms of excersize, something as simple as an hours walk a day will vastly improve your fitness. Add in some weights a couple of times a week to build muscle tone.

Try quorn...ive said it before to people and i'll say it again it's a meat substitute that's light and low in fat...u can make bolognaise, chilli, curry all sorts of dishes!
Also, yogurt with fruit, sugar free jelly, cereal bars are good (it feels like your eating a candy bar but healthier)

Dont forget, you are allowed the occassional treat...it will get boring if you're too strict with yourself. Food is there to be enjoyed and there are lots of healthy foods to experiment with. Dont just eat salad and stuff cos then it will get difficult!

Have fun and dont see it as a chore!
